That is why alarmists actually had to quit talking about "global warming" and are now using the catch-phrase "climate change"It is even debatable how much global warming occured prior to 2001. For one thing, global temps had for decades been the averaged cumulative readings of thermometers scattered all around the planet. When the Soviet Union fell in the 80's there were several thermometers that had been used in gathering the planets temperature that were decommissioned. The majority of those decommissioned thermometers had been in places in Siberia. The sudden removal of thermometers that had been providing some of the colder readings left the average of the remaining thermometers showing a warmer average.
