George Dingeldein: My take is they want to cut spending and break up teacher's unions. Meanwhile, they want to increase standards and expectations of teachers......so just so we are clear, I believe republicans/conservatives want to lower teacher pay, reduce their collective bargaining power (so the ISD has more power over the teacher's employment), and then also demand that teachers work much harder and longer hours to produce higher academic achievement....oh, and if No Child Left Behind is any indication, then while they are lowering teacher's pay, they will make it more difficult and more expensive to become a teacher in the first place (because they will require higher degrees)....Show more
