Robin Weelborg: If you've never taken it it might be hard. On the other hand, undergraduate courses are typically introductory and don't presume prior knowledge. So, as long as you put in a little time and effort it shouldn't be too hard. Obviously the more interesting you find it, the easier it becomes to do that.
Marcelina Schossow: Philosophy is the art of wonder. Philosophy is the outgrowth of human nature's desire to know who we are and why we are. Having said that however, I would like to explore with you, the big picture. These are my views only. You must take it with a big pinch of salt. But I have lived more than six decades, so I'm going to tell you the realities of life.First of all, before you commit your time to take Philosophy even for one semester, I suggest that you should investigate the bio data of the professor or lecturer who will be giving you lectures. If he drives to the university in a luxury car, tell you jokes about how he made millions of ! dollars on the side besides his meager university pay, go and lap up every word he says. But if he is struggling financially, run like hell to the other departments and pick up an alternative course. I would suggest subjects that make you more savvy with money and people skills - investment, financial markets, central banking, economics, sales, marketing and e-commerce....Show more
Kenneth Thuesen: Since you are asking this question, I am going to guess you are not a natural, which would make it easy for you if you were. As said before, a lot depends on your professor, there are some real live ones out there, and it becomes the luck of the draw. You need to be someone who thinks outside the box, likes to read, research, and answer questions most do not even understand. I don't like answering a question with a question , but why do you want to take philosophy, if your hearts not into it? Any course can be hard if you don't have that thirst for the knowledge. My conclus! ion would be, since you ask, it could be hard since you don't ! have the attitude of, "oh wow, I am getting to study philosophy". I could hardly sleep the night before I went to class, just like a kid before Christmas. Of course I am probably not normal, but who is?...Show more
Nedra Oltz: It all just depends on if you try or not. Sorry if this wasn't helpful.
Jen Maday: I have never taken philosophy before, is it hard?~~~ Not if you are naturally used to it!Philosophy is 'original critical thought';Critical Thinking Mini Lessonshttp://www.skepdic.com/refuge/ctlessons.htmlBertrand Russell on Critical Thinkinghttp://www.bu.edu/wcp/Papers/Educ/EducHare.htmGeneral college level philosophy?~~~ ...is;"...philosophers and not "philosophologists", a term coined by Robert Pirsig ("Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", "Lila") to denote people who study other people's philosophy but cannot do philosophy themselves. He also says that most people who consider themselves philosophers are actually philosophologists. The difference ! between a philosopher and a philosophologist is like the difference between an art and aesthetics; one does and the other studies what the other does and theorizes about it."...Show more
Kirk Coolbeth: It depends on your professor. I had a very complicated to understand one when I took it a few years back. She would say one thing, the book another, and then tell us that in philosophy there are no right or wrong answers as long as you understand the concept or big picture of things. I hate the idea of thinking about life in the form of a question, so for me it was very difficult. Some people really enjoy it though (my brother being one such person) and can truly excel in the subject. Good luck to you!...Show more
